Are Google's privacy features bad for the Internet?

Is Google bad for the world? I guess you can argue that Google sets its own standards way too high. People interact with Google on a day to day basis so they come to expect it from Google. So far so good, everyone wins. However, people also become complacent. They begin to think that the strong privacy that Google affords are industrial standards. Thus, they do not ask for a robust legal framework that would keep less scrupulous companies in check.

Well, this is just a thought. I would like to know what you think about it.
